Cold Comfort

I have stated on this site that I love winter. And I stand behind that statement. Still, the brutal cold over the past couple of weeks has tested even the strongest amongst us. Thankfully, the sun has been shining even on the coldest of days. Of course, when it’s positively frigid, the question is always what to wear.

When my amazing new friend Ashley and I decided to meet recently to snap a few photos, I knew I had to prepare to be outdoors for a while. To stay as warm as possible, I decided to go with a wool sweater and skirt, cozy Wolford tights and ankle boots.

I purchased the green Dolce & Gabbana skirt on sale at Neiman Marcus when there was an extra 25 percent off already seriously reduced prices. It seemed like just the thing for the winter ahead. The sweater was purchased from Saks Fifth Avenue when they had the same extra 25 percent off between 8 a.m. and noon the day after Christmas. (If you don’t already know about these two bonus sales, you need to!) The sweater is Rebecca Taylor and I like that it’s light enough to dress up a little.

The day of our shoot wasn’t too cold so I could slip off my coat for a few shots. But I had this Joseph Altuzarra peacoat to keep me warm when I needed it. This coat is one of my favorite sale purchases of all time. I found it a couple of years ago on Net-a-Porter. It has Thinsulate insulation and so it’s very warm for a peacoat.

The Chanel boots are from Saks as well and were 30 percent off around Christmas —that’s the most Chanel ever goes on sale and it only does so twice a year. The only thing in this ensemble that wasn’t purchased on sale is the Prada bag, which was a gift from my husband and makes me swoon every time I pull it out.
