Net-A-Porter launched a special “private sale” yesterday with quite the selection. All items labeled “seasonal pick” are 25 percent off during the sale—and there’s a dizzying number of them.

I found this Saint Laurent bag during one of Net-A-Porter’s previous private sales, which always occur before the big winter and spring sales. I debated getting it, wondering if the bag might go on further sale during the spring sale that came about a month later. In the end, I decided to grab it because it was a good price for something I really wanted. And I’m glad I did. The bag never went on sale again. It was still on the site for some time at the regular price.

These types of pre-sales (always around 20-25 percent off, always a few weeks before the major sales) can be great for splurge items such as handbags that are hard to get on sale period. I have included links to several YSL bags here and a bunch of Dolce & Gabbana ones. I still really love the Miss Sicily bag; it remains on my wish list and I’m weighing whether to get one now…

Of course, these sales are also great for items that you really want and are at a decent price at 25 percent off—the Junya Watanabe sweater covered in paillettes below. Or the star print Perfect Moment sweatshirt. Or the adorable mustard-colored Sea dress, which I’m also considering. This pretty Ulla Johnson dress I wore in Italy this summer is now on sale.

This might look like a random assortment of items—that’s because there’s a certain recipe to the pre-sale. Take a look and let me know what you think.

A note about the “private sale” aspect. It is my experience that shopping on a site a single time gets you an invitation to a private sale. But I expect it to launch to everyone soon in any case.
