When the Refined Side asked a group of bloggers including yours truly to each pick a glamourous item from our closets, I immediately thought of these Dolce & Gabbana heels. I saw them online this past fall and was instantly drawn to the jeweled heel and retro shape.

I began stalking them on a couple of shopping sites in November and made my move when they went on deep sale at Barneys.com. (If you’re new to this site, you’ll soon discover that I buy absolutely everything on sale —which led me to start Noir Friday!) I love the gold piping around the soft black suede and the thick gold heel. I wore them for the first time on New Year’s Eve for a quiet dinner with my husband and daughter with this 3.1 Phillip Lim dress.

I love the embellishment that Dolce & Gabbana is known for and the mood the brand evokes. Their recent campaigns centered around the family reminds me of my own back in Greece. My yiayia, clad in all black every day of her life after my papou passed, was very elegant. She loved nothing more than to have us visit, sitting for hours on her front porch listening to my dad’s stories from America.

And how heartwarming was the “Mamma” show for FW/16? My three-year-old daughter has already claimed many of my shoes for when she’s a “grown up.” She’s been going through my closet since before she was even two. I do think we’re born with it.

I feel most glamourous these days when I’m clutching her tiny hand while walking down the street or at home with her playing pretend and I’m happy to pass on all my shoes to her. I hope she will wear them and feel as glamourous as I do when I wear my own mamma’s treasures.
