Narrowing down what to buy on sale can be overwhelming—you don’t want to miss a great deal but who has time to search the hundreds of items available on sale at the dozens of sites you visit when it comes to online shopping. Fortunately, that’s my job here at Noir Friday and this list is for me as much as is it for you. I like to have a good lay of the land and really do my homework before I start purchasing.

A note about the outfit pictured here, which Ashley of Sed Bona shot on a glorious fall day here in Chicago a few weeks back. Like most of my outfits, everything pictured was purchased on sale (minus the coat, which I bought from H&M in September). I found the Olympia Le Tan sweatshirt on sale at Shopbop last spring. The glasses were found on sale through MatchesFashion. But what I really wanted to point out here is the skirt and the boots—two items I found on sale years ago and still wear constantly. The skirt is Dolce & Gabbana and I have literally worn it a million different ways. I found it in-store at Neiman Marcus eons ago. The boots are Chanel and like most of my Chanel shoes, were a score from the year-end Saks Fifth Avenue sale here in Chicago. I am a broken record about this but there are still reasons to visit brick-and-mortar, especially this time of year and for brands such as Chanel, which won’t go on sale online. They are both investment pieces but have become cornerstones in my wardrobe.
