Spring Sales

Spring_sales3

The spring sales kicked in this week, with retailers from Saks to Barneys to Nordstrom to SSENSE offering first markdowns (around 40 percent off). The selection will grow, especially after the holiday, but now is the time to shop those summer dresses and flirty sandals you know you’re going to wear on repeat from Memorial Day through Labor Day. I’ve scoured the major retailers so you don’t have to. Keep reading for quick tips on how to navigate the first round of markdowns and then just click to buy. Happy shopping!

3 TIPS FOR SHOPPING THE FIRST ROUND OF SPRING SALES

1. Buy dresses you can wear all summer. If there’s something you love and it’s only on offer at one retailer, buy it fast. Otherwise, chances are you can get it for around 60 percent off by mid-June. Retailers will also be adding new pieces daily, so buy what you love now and then watch and wait.

2. Buy something slightly off-season: a long-sleeve blouse, a denim jacket, a lightweight sweater. If you’re like me, you are in no mood to shop heavy knits, but I do think ahead a bit to pre-fall and even next spring and snatch up those transitional pieces I’m always grateful to have when I need them.

3. Buy some basics. I use the fall/winter sales to scoop up a lot of statement and investment pieces, whereas the spring sales season is a good time to buy quality tees, versatile skirts and pretty blouses for less than $100.
