Best Sale Finds: 2015

Chanel6

A good way to reflect on the previous year is to look back on its fashions: that sweater you bought when you received a promotion, the shoe you purchased for that goosebumps-inducing event, the dress you found on sale that made you do a dance in the dressing room. I catalogue everything in my closet according to the role it plays in my wardrobe, its sentimental value—and when I found it on sale. Here’s a look at my best sale finds of 2015, plus where to shop these exact pieces or similar items.

Chanel5

I found these Chanel clog sandals at Neiman Marcus last summer. They were seriously discounted, with an extra 25 percent off when I bought them in late July, which I had never seen for Chanel before. I can’t remember the exact price, but let’s just say it began with a 2. I only had a chance to wear them a couple of times (see more of them here), so I’m super excited to pair them with everything this summer. TIP: It’s always worth checking the major department stores regularly throughout December and July because the fact is that some of the best deals are in stores, especially for brands such as Louboutin and Chanel, which are not sold online.

I bought this mini Saint Laurent using a 25 percent off promo at Net-A-Porter. I have found that the online retailer runs this promo right before their twice-yearly sales. TIP: Shop the site once or twice and you should get an email in the early spring and late winter.

MSGM6revised

This MSGM dress, purchased on sale at Saks Fifth Avenue, was one of my favorites this year. I now conduct regular searches on MSGM. I love the fun prints and off-kilter vibe.

This Chloe bag came from the spring SSENSE sale. The site is a good one for sales on major items. TIP: I expect this small Saddle bag to go on sale in the spring again, so keep a watch. Truth be told, I wasn’t wild about this purse like everyone else was but it turned out to be the perfect little summer bag and I wore it constantly (here and here, for example) and plan to do so for years to come. In the meantime, I have seen the Drew bag on sale (worn here, here and here) in a few different places—be sure to check the shopping links.

Prada2

This Prada sandal ignited a love of the flatform for me—an absolute brilliant concept. Super comfortable while giving you a little lift (see more of them here), it’s the stuff shoe dreams are made of.

I found this Dolce & Gabbana skirt on sale at Neiman Marcus the day after Christmas last year, so technically it was a 2014 find, but close enough. I now check for sales on Dolce & Gabbana items regularly because I find the prints to be so versatile. Prints are like neutrals to me and I have long mixed things up with no rules. A note about the coat: I found this Carven coat online at Neiman Marcus in 2014. It was Last Call. There was maybe one or two. In my size. I wasn’t looking for a coat since it was essentially spring. But it was such a good price. I decided to “bring it in” and, oh, what a wise decision that was. It is by far one of my favorite coats.

coat

This Altuzarra coat is the second I have scored on sale at Barneys New York. (The first was the green parka below.) It goes back a bit. I actually saw it on sale in early January of 2014. I’m including it here because I always look for an Altuzarra coat on sale every Christmas (photos of new one coming soon!). It tipped my budget a bit that year, but it was such a good price for such a beautiful, classic coat, and the fur around the collar is so luxurious.

Here’s to a healthy and prosperous New Year. I wish all of you lucky finds and treasured experiences. For 2016, I resolve to stop and smell the roses as much as possible. To really enjoy that lucky find. To give extra thanks. To savor a cup of coffee, a scoop of ice cream, a sliver of peace. To snuggle and laugh more. To watch my daughter play. To live in the moment. To celebrate everyone around me.

Looking forward to this journey together. Happy 2016.
